I joined SDL Surveying in 2017, undertaking a variety of roles within the call centre operation. I was then lucky to get the SAVA scholarship in February 2019, before qualifying as an AssocRICS surveyor in summer 2021 after completing my studies.
SDL were really supportive during my course: they provided me with mentoring opportunities, helped me with my submissions, and gave feedback on those submissions. I was able to ask surveyors for help whenever I needed it and they were really great at pushing me to get through the course to become a surveyor.
I joined SDL in 2020 following 19 years at my previous employers. I have to say I have not been disappointed at all. The management’s attitude towards their staff is a breath of fresh air. It’s a shock, but a nice one, to have a call from your manager just asking how you are!
Since joining, my health has improved. My blood pressure is lower, my blood sugar is more under control (I am a diabetic), and overall, I am feeling much healthier. More importantly others have commented on the positive changes in me too. The best thing about SDL is definitely the work-life balance… but having a Tesla as a company car isn’t bad either!
My only regret is that I didn’t join SDL sooner.
SDL is a great place to work with a brilliant culture of teamwork. Colleagues are always prepared to go the extra mile and help each other out, whether it’s a small favour or a bigger task.
Even though I’m field based I still feel very much part of the SDL family, as there are plenty of extracurricular activities to get involved in. For example, I always get take part in the fundraising challenges and events which SDL organises, including a 5k 10-day challenge last year and an upcoming Yorkshire 3 peaks hike.
Since joining in 2019, my work life balance has been perfect. My role in the surveying field allows a certain degree of flexibility which makes life much easier and reduces stress.
